Seventeen people were killed in a serious bus accident in the Philippines on Tuesday. The vehicle left the road at a bend in a mountainous area near the town of Hamtic on the southern tip of Panay Island.
According to initial investigations, the bus crashed into a concrete barrier on a bend and then fell into the ravine. Several accidents have already occurred, according to the provincial governor. The accident happened about 450 kilometers south of the capital Manila.
Originally there was even talk of 28 deaths. The surviving eleven people were partly seriously injured, said the head of the local disaster response, Broderick Train. It took emergency services ten hours to rescue all passengers from the rubble of the bus.
