18 and 15 years in prison: these are the non-statutory sentences for the two Hungarian half-brothers (26, 20). The jury found her guilty of a robbery that resulted in death on Wednesday afternoon in Salzburg. They are therefore responsible for the death of Mohanad A. during a car sale.
Until the end, the relatives hoped that the two suspects would reveal the secret about the whereabouts of Mohanad A.’s body. But the half-brothers did not reveal where they hid the lifeless body. On the contrary: they pretended to be ignorant and avoided the question.
Robbery resulting in death
Nevertheless, the eight jurors unanimously found the two suspects guilty of robbery resulting in death on Wednesday afternoon. Long prison sentences were imposed for this, especially in the case of the younger suspect (20). The reason is his relevant criminal record.
According to the verdict, the two Hungarian half-brothers are responsible for the death of Mohanad A. From the perspective of the public prosecutor, they murdered the Iraqi during a car deal. The Iraqi wanted to sell his black BMW X6 around the turn of the year and advertised the car on Facebook for 17,000 euros.
Disappeared for 300 days
The 26-year-old Hungarian then contacted him. After the third meeting on January 3, Mohanad A. disappeared: there has been no sign of his life for more than 300 days. Hundreds of officers have already searched for his body in vain. The two suspects had denied any guilt prior to the trial.
During the trial, the 20-year-old spoke about a physical altercation in the stairwell of the apartment building where the Iraqi had met the Hungarian to sell a car. Mohanad A. allegedly lost his consciousness and his life due to punches, according to the convict.
The statements are not legally binding. There is now a three-day period for requesting legal remedies. According to victim lawyer Stefan Rieder, the court awarded the victim’s fiancée 50,000 euros and the victim’s father 25,000 euros in compensation.
