Due to good values - The sky of the 80s could fall this summer

Date:

Less traffic and better air make the unpopular speed brake wobble on the Salzburg Westautobahn.

Since its introduction, the air 80s has been the enemy of local drivers on the city highway. Many would rather get rid of it sooner than later. Besides braking, the accident statistics are the main argument of the opponents. Due to the lower speed and the resulting shorter distances, many accidents have occurred in the past, for example when changing lanes. The result was personal injury and physical damage.

Limit values are no longer exceeded
The Austrian Traffic Club has now published current figures on the traffic situation on the highways around Salzburg. It shows that there was a decrease in traffic between January and April 2022 compared to 2019 – the year before the pandemic. Air quality has also improved considerably in recent years and limit values are no longer exceeded.

Does this mean the end of the restriction? Possibly. The country is currently awaiting a report, which should be ready by early July. Then the situation is evaluated. State Vice-President Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens): “The forecast for the future is important, because air values should not be exceeded again after the measure has been lifted.”

A flexible variant is conceivable for Schellhorn in the future. There must be no air 80s in the low-emission summer and must be switched on flexibly again in the winter months. The decision will be made in the summer.
