On Wednesday, Iran tested – according to its own statements successfully – a space capsule for the future transport of astronauts. It is unclear when the Islamic Republic plans to use the new technology to send humans into space.
As the official state news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday, citing Information Minister Isa Sarepur, the 500-kilogram capsule was shot to an altitude of 130 kilometers.
However, according to the IRNA report, Sarepur is hoping for “more good news” by March next year. Iran’s intention is to use its space technology for civilian purposes. It was not reported which animals were in the capsule during the flight.
The US is afraid of military intentions
Last September, the Islamic Republic announced that it had launched an Earth observation satellite into space. Contrary to Tehran’s claims, the US and Israel fear that space technology will certainly serve military purposes.
Iran regularly announces successful satellite launches. The country announced the successful spaceflight of a monkey in 2013.
