A wild incident in a car repair shop was heard at the Linz Regional Court for two days. Ultimately, the jury found the bloody knife attack was an attempted murder. The main perpetrator and his accomplice were given long prison sentences, which are not legally binding.
For the second time, two Chechens (33 and 46 years old) had to appear before the judge of the Linz Regional Court on Tuesday. As reported, the younger man is accused by the public prosecutor of seriously wounding his wife’s ‘ex’ with a knife in March – with the intention of murder.
“I didn’t want to kill”
“I wanted to hit him and seriously injure him, but not kill him,” the 33-year-old, who has four previous convictions, said at the first court date and stood by his statements on Tuesday. He also allegedly injured two officers while in custody after his arrest. “His” driver took a seat next to him on the dock. The 46-year-old allegedly drove his friend to and from the crime scene, the victim’s workshop in Haid. He denied any intent and stated that he had no knowledge of the first defendant’s intentions.
Jurors saw attempted murder
Just like on the first day of the trial, it was hectic in the courtroom on Tuesday. The jury then had to decide whether they, like the prosecutor, saw an attempted murder by the 33-year-old. They answered the question with “yes”. The non-final verdict: 13 years in prison for the main perpetrator, two and a half years for complicity in the intentional serious bodily harm of the accomplice.
