$20,000 sneakers in a used clothing container

Date:

Director Spike Lee wore gold sneakers specially designed for him to win the 2019 Oscars. Now these have ended up in a used clothing container – apparently as a donation.

James Free couldn’t believe his eyes at first: the homeless aid worker had emptied the clothing donation container in front of the Portland Rescue Mission in the US state of Oregon when he discovered gold sneakers on the ground. And it wasn’t just any Nike Air Jordan 3 that designer Tinker Hatfield created for director Spike Lee’s (“BlacKkKlansman”) Oscar appearance in 2019. The estimated value: approximately $20,000 (approximately 19,000 euros).

A colleague of Free’s was a sneaker fan and was sure they were the real shoes. “Hatfield has already confirmed that they are his Jordans,” reveals homeless man Free. “He flew to us and donated a wall plaque with the design concept and a specially made, signed shoe box, which further increases the value of the sneakers.”

Now sneakers are being auctioned
It is unclear who donated the Nikes and especially how they ended up in Oregon. Now the shoes are being auctioned off to benefit the homeless shelter.
