Israeli soldiers accidentally killed three hostages kidnapped by the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Friday. During a fight, the three hostages were “unintentionally perceived as a threat.” That’s why the soldiers shot at them, the army said on X on Friday evening.
An investigation was immediately launched and the bodies had already been brought to Israel. “The military deeply regrets the tragic incident and extends its deepest condolences to the families,” the statement said.
“Our national task is to find the missing people and bring all the hostages home.” The Israeli government has been under enormous domestic political pressure for weeks from relatives of the kidnapped, who are calling for an end to the military action.
With the mediation of the Emirate of Qatar, several dozen hostages were released at the end of November in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Among them were the wife and children of Israeli-Austrian Tal Shoham, who is apparently still under the terrorists’ control.
Incident in “active combat zone”
After an agreement to extend the deal failed, Israel resumed military action to destroy the terrorist organization Hamas.
Two of the killed hostages were identified as Yotam Haim and Samer Talalka. The name of the third person killed was not released at the request of the family. The incident took place in an “active combat zone,” the military said. The first lessons have already been learned from the incident and have been passed on to the troops operating in the Gaza Strip.
