In Waidhofen an der Thaya there was a cellar fire that made a single-family home uninhabitable. An apartment building burned down in Horn: two people had to be rescued by the fire brigade and a total of 26 people had to move to emergency shelter. Only one dog could be found dead.
Fire brigades in Waidhofen an der Thaya and Horn had to fight several dangerous blazes on Sunday. A cellar burned down in the northern settlement of Waidhfone and several rooms were destroyed. The gas, electricity and water supplies had to be turned off. The fire raged so fiercely that the owner couple, about 40 years old, and their dog – they are in good health – are currently unable to live in the house. The fire in the rear part of the basement was quickly extinguished. After two hours, the fire brigade from Waidhofen an der Thaya left again.
Two people rescued, dog burned
A four-legged friend in Horn was less lucky. When a fire broke out in an apartment building on Frauenhofnerstrasse late on Sunday afternoon, the dog could only be rescued lifeless. The Florianis rescued two people from two apartments: One they were able to rescue through smoke ventilation via the stairs, the other person had to be brought out via the turntable ladder.
The authority decides on habitability
Some of the 26 residents who were not injured were taken to the emergency services for treatment. Eight people were sheltered by community workers in the student hostel and art house. Two residents were taken to hospital and three cats were rescued. The fire was extinguished quickly and was extinguished by 7:15 p.m. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. The authorities will decide when the house will be habitable again.
