Spectacular scenes took place on a highway parking lot in the Tyrolean lowlands on Monday evening: a 36-year-old Italian lost control of his car, ‘mowed down’ a notice board, guide posts and snow poles, among other things, and ultimately crashed into a steel pole. The driver suffered injuries.
It was truly a trail of destruction that the 36-year-old left behind on the highway parking lot in Vomp (Schwaz district). Around 7:30 p.m. the Italian drove to the rest area on the A12, the Inntal highway. “The man drove the car off the road into the slow lane,” police said.

When approaching the gas station site there, the car collided with a sign with the left side of the vehicle. “A beam has torn off. The car then drove over a four-inch high road divider and ultimately crashed head-on into a massive steel column,” investigators continued.

Several traffic checkpoints, snow poles and traffic control devices were also “mown away” or damaged by the car. The Italian suffered significant injuries in the accident and had to be taken by ambulance to the Schwaz district hospital after first aid.
It is currently unclear why the 36-year-old lost control of his car.
