Ski mountaineer Jakob Herrmann is planning a record attempt. The Pongauer wants to climb 24,000 meters in one day.
“You have to have a bit of a bird for it.” Ski mountaineer Jakob Herrmann knows that his planned record attempt is actually completely crazy. The 36-year-old extreme athlete wants to climb 24,000 vertical meters on skis in Radstadt at the end of January 2024 – 23,500 is the current record. “One route has a total elevation difference of 750 meters. “So I have to go up the mountain 32 times and then back down again,” explains the Pongauer.
Why would you do something like that to yourself? “It doesn’t matter to me, but I want to know for myself whether I can perform for a whole day,” says Herrmann, who has been preparing specifically for this project for several weeks.
In addition to the record attempt, he will also participate in ‘normal’ events this winter. Special attention is paid to the home races (Mountain Attack in Saalbach and Erztrofy inwerfenweng). Hermann: “Those are always highlights for me.”
