The Tyrolean police in Ischgl were able to stop a trio of thieves. The three men of Serbian descent are suspected of stealing numerous ski equipment. Officers were able to catch one of the suspected perpetrators red-handed. He is now in custody.
The trio was unmasked because a police patrol in Ischgl noticed an initially unknown man with expensive ski equipment but without suitable ski clothing on Wednesday. “When the patrol tried to check on the man, he fled,” investigators said. After a short manhunt, the fugitive – a 53-year-old Serb – was found in a hotel and arrested.
Trio under suspicion, 53-year-old in custody
The officers found stolen ski equipment worth approximately 10,000 euros in the tourist sector. “The man is suspected of stealing the equipment together with two other Serbs aged 56 and 58.” The 53-year-old was taken into custody at Innsbruck prison. The other two suspects are said to be at large. “Numerous skis have already been traced to their rightful owners and thefts in Sölden, Ischgl and Samnaun have been cleared up,” the police continued.
The police are looking for owners
Due to some unidentifiable skis, police are asking any theft victims to come forward. Specifically, we are looking for people whose skis from the brands “Atomic”, “Stöckli” or “Head” were stolen between December 13 and 20 in Ischgl, Samnaun or Sölden.
Those affected are asked to contact the police in Ischgl: 059133/7142.
