On Sunday evening, a serious fire broke out in a house in an allotment garden on Amundsenstrasse in Vienna-Penzing. After four hours a “fire out” was reported.
When the Vienna fire brigade arrived, the building was completely on fire; previous attempts by neighbors and residents of the house to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful. Because the house is located in the middle of the settlement and can only be reached via footpaths, an almost 200 meter long power line had to be constructed.
Challenging firefighting
Ultimately, the fire was fought with three extinguishing lines and the fire was prevented from spreading to adjacent buildings. However, during the approximately four-hour operation, the building’s roof and various wooden cladding had to be cut open using special equipment.
35 emergency services with eight vehicles were involved in the firefighting effort, and the Special Operations Group (SEG) of the Vienna Professional Rescue Service was also on site, the fire brigade reported in a broadcast. The cause of the fire is currently unclear and is under investigation by the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department.
