An unemployed 17-year-old stole several thousand euros worth of bicycles and scooters. He showed remorse in the court in Feldkirch.
These are e-bikes and scooters worth around 10,000 euros that the Unterländer stole in Götzis last summer. The suspect cannot or does not want to remember the crimes. During the trial he stated that he was too drunk at the time.
“Different Jacky Cola”
An excuse that the judge has probably heard before. Defender Martin Kloser feels compelled to add a few more sentences: “I don’t know if it’s a lame excuse when he says he can’t remember. But that evening, the suspect had drunk several Jacky Cola with a few friends. In this case, you may have one or two memory gaps. In any case, my client is not proud of what he did next. But he confessed.” And both prosecutor Richard Gschwenter and Judge Martin Mitteregger give the delinquent a lot of credit for this.
Decision on probation period
The fact that the stolen bicycles and scooters were returned to their owners and therefore no damage occurred is also reflected in the verdict. The municipality therefore issues a guilty verdict as charged and imposes a partial fine on the boy of 960 euros, of which he must pay 240 euros. Because the 17-year-old has already benefited from distraction, a probationary period is decided. Although the verdict is final, the judge examines the young man again at the end of the hearing: “Make sure you turn the corner. Make your mother and the probation officer happy and less work for the court.”
