After a body (78) was discovered on Christmas Day in a serious room fire in Vienna-Margareten, the police announced another fire in an office in Favoriten. Thieves had previously tried to break open the front door.
After the body of a 78-year-old woman was found in Margartenstrasse, the Vienna public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy. The dead woman was found in her apartment on Sunday morning by the professional fire brigade after the home help smelled the burning smell behind the closed door.
Cause still unclear
The fire brigade opened the apartment, but only found that the fire had already gone out and retrieved the body. Fire investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department took over the investigation, but the cause could not immediately be determined.
Second fire in Favoriten
Shortly before, the professional fire brigade was called to a fire in the Favoritner Leibnizgasse, after a witness noticed smoke development. The emergency services extinguished the fire on the ground floor of the building with breathing apparatus and found traces of forced entry at the entrance to an office.
Thieves fled after attempted burglary
According to police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger, the perpetrators probably tried to pry open the front door, but fled headlong. Even the burglary tools were still in the door. It was investigated whether the fire was related to the burglary attempt.
