The perpetrator has a master’s degree – a university professor is back home after a hammer attack

Date:

First the good news: the Linz professor of mathematics who was attacked with a hammer by a master’s student (39) yesterday on the JKU grounds, is in home care. He was released from hospital on Tuesday after treatment. The perpetrator is in a psychiatric ward.

“JKU employees of the institute of the professor involved immediately informed the police and rescue services. Upon arrival, the injured professor was quickly given first aid and taken to hospital. In addition to the shock, he suffered serious injuries to his head (wound) and ribs, which are certainly accompanied by severe pain. Thank God he was able to return home yesterday’, Uni Rector Meinhard Lukas told the university staff.

“Already had text contact”
Lukas continues: “Yesterday I already had text message contact with the affected professor and I was able to express our displeasure on behalf of the entire JKU, send him the very best wishes for recovery and of course offer all help. We made an appointment for a phone call today. “I have had repeated telephone contact with the director of the National Police to get a complete picture of the crime and the current situation. I have also been in close contact with the relevant institute since yesterday, also to provide the necessary support here.”

Severe intellectual disability”
The motive for the act was probably the serious mental disability of the perpetrator. He was admitted to the forensic department of Neuromed Campus and is in safe custody there. Lukas: “We now know the perpetrator by name. This is how we know that he has completed a master’s degree. He is not currently studying at the JKU.”
