Israel also attacked – Houthis claim responsibility for attack on ship

Date:

The Iran-backed Houthi militia has now claimed responsibility for attacks on a ship in the Red Sea and on targets in Israel. The Houthis see themselves as part of the ‘Axis of Resistance’, which is aimed against Israel together with Hamas and the Shia Islamist Hezbollah.

Since the start of the war in the Middle East, the Houthis have repeatedly attacked ships off the coast of Yemen (see video above). According to the US Department of Defense, the rebels have so far attacked a total of 10 merchant ships with missiles. On Tuesday, the militia finally announced that it had attacked the merchant ship “MSC United” and also used drones “against military targets” in southern Israel.

This statement was also confirmed by the British Merchant Shipping Association and the Israeli military. There was at least one report of the interception of an “enemy air target” over the Red Sea. Explosions are said to have occurred outside the Yemeni port city of Hodeida. However, a passing ship and its crew were said to be safe. It was able to continue its journey unscathed.

Egypt reports drone shot down
Meanwhile, Egyptian air defenses shot down a drone near the seaside resort of Dahab, which borders the Red Sea. According to military sources, they shot at the Houthis in Yemen. The rebels have not yet commented on the incident.

A few days ago, the US announced that it would form an international military coalition to protect merchant shipping in the Red Sea. The EU also wants to participate.

Attacks on ships in the Arabian Sea have also been reported recently, and the Indian government has now announced an increased presence in the region. No one has yet claimed responsibility for these attacks. On one ship there was a connection with Israel.
