A smoke detector prevented another inferno: On Christmas Day, an Advent wreath burst into flames when a Weiz resident fell asleep. She heard the alarm go off and discovered the fire. A neighbor also rushed to help.
A 68-year-old had lit the candles of her Advent wreath at the kitchen table, but fell asleep next to it. She noticed the fire when a smoke detector went off in her apartment. A neighbor walking past her apartment door also noticed the smoke alarm going off and came to the Weizer woman’s aid. He immediately grabbed the fire extinguisher! When the fire brigade arrived, the fire had already been extinguished.
The pensioner was taken to Weiz State Hospital for examination.
