Almost nothing is as sacred to Italians as their food. Gino Sorbillo still dared to scratch a monument and put pizza with pineapple on his menu.
Shitstorm for pizza maker
A deadly culinary sin for the Italians. And so, of course, a shitstorm ensued when Sorbillo posted a video on Instagram of himself trying his “Pizza con Pineapple.”
“You have sinned, Sorbi”
“You have sinned Sorbi, do it in London, New York, but not in Naples,” wrote one. “This is how you kill a Neapolitan tradition… everything is Americanized,” one user fumed. “Pizza with a knife and fork and then also with pineapple – this time I’m crying, Gino, not you,” was another comment.
‘Guys, don’t panic. “I believe in tradition,” replied Sorbillo, who sells pizzas not only in Naples, but also in Miami and Tokyo. His conclusion after the test meal was positive: “Guys, it’s tasty.”
You either love them or hate them
Pizza with pineapple or the Hawaiian version with pineapple and ham divides culinary opinions. You either love them or hate them deeply. But as we all know, taste is up for debate.
