A man in the Villach district was seriously injured “in the hand area” before midnight, police said on Sunday evening. The Carinthian reached for the rocket because he suspected a misfire.
According to a statement from authorities, the 55-year-old set off the F2 category fireworks in his garden shortly before 6 p.m. To avoid a crossfire, he placed the rocket in a plastic bottle and secured it with a wooden stake.
When the 55-year-old suspected a misfire, he wanted to relight the bullet. “At that moment, however, the pyrotechnic device discharged, causing the man’s cell phone to be thrown from his hand and straight into his face,” police said.
Serious injury to the hand
As a result, he suffered serious injuries to his hand area and had to be taken to the Villach LKH by the rescue team after receiving first aid. The investigation into the accident continues. Negligence by third parties is currently excluded.
