Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his compatriots in an emotional New Year’s speech. He called on Ukrainians to shape 2024 according to their own ideas and not lose sight of the future of their homeland.
“We Ukrainians know better than anyone that a better future does not come by itself, because we defend our tomorrow with our own hands,” he said in his video address on Sunday evening, in which his wife Olena Selenska also appeared at his side.
“That is why our new year will be exactly how we want it and how we will shape it.” Zelenskyj pointed out that a new year also involves active action – he addressed people directly: “Not only the New Year’s miracle, but also the miracle that you are all year round: determined, responsible, caring and efficient.”
At the same time, he reminded Ukrainians that the country is still under attack by Russia and wished them strength and confidence. “Life and strength for the people who defend a free and secure future – not only their own, but that of the whole world.”
