In Koblenz, Germany (state of Rhineland-Palatinate), an 18-year-old died when a firecracker exploded on New Year’s Eve. The accident happened when fireworks were being set off, police said Sunday evening.
Despite resuscitation, the young man died as a result of the explosion. The investigation into the circumstances was still ongoing.
The police initially did not want to provide any further information about the incident in the Rübenach district. The police again called for caution when handling fireworks.
Serious accident also in Berlin
On Sunday, a man in Berlin also lost a hand when setting off a fireworks rocket in Berlin. The 40-year-old set off the signal rocket on the terrace of a bungalow, Berlin police said on Sunday.
Immediately after ignition on Saturday, the rocket exploded in his hand. He was taken to a hospital. More fireworks were found on him and seized.
