The world is in constant crisis mode, wars and fast-moving developments such as artificial intelligence are turning social life upside down in many areas. “There are certain skills that we can acquire relatively easily to better deal with these difficult situations in the future,” says best-selling author and education expert Andreas Salcher.
In the book “Our new best friend, the future – what the young know and we don’t yet”, Salcher explains what skills the young generation has that the world of tomorrow needs.
He interviewed 23 Generation Z students. With some surprising findings: “Young people are concerned about the world’s problems; But when it comes to their own lives, they are surprisingly positive,” says Salcher in the krone.tv interview with Jana Pasching. Basic confidence is the key to success because it can be multiplied and transferred to other skills.
The author also wants to clarify the contradictions of the future working world: “You cannot generalize that young people want to work less.” Young people are certainly willing to perform, but under three very clear criteria: autonomy, time flexibility and meaning.
‘Discussions about the 30-hour working week are wrong’
According to Salcher, young people want to influence their time, not just in the weeks but over their entire lives. He thinks the discussions about the 30-hour working week are completely wrong. “There are young people who are willing to work very hard for six months or a year. But then they want to have another six months to do something completely different.”
What older people can learn from the younger generation and more information can be seen in the video above.
