Wednesday was a black day in the mountain community: in the afternoon, two fatal accidents occurred in the Salzburg Flachgau. In both cases, German mountaineers died.
A German couple was hiking to the Eisenauer Alm in the municipality of St. Gilgen on Wednesday afternoon. It happened during the descent along the Burggrabenklamm: The man (65) suddenly left the path and then fell 150 meters over steep terrain into the gorge. The woman, who must have witnessed the crash, immediately raised the alarm.
The rescue helicopter quickly reached the scene of the accident. However, the emergency doctor could only determine that the man was dead. A police helicopter took over the rescue of the lifeless body.
31-year-old had an accident on the Postalm via ferrata
A few kilometers further, on the Postalm via ferrata in Strobl, the next mountain accident occurred: a German alpinist (31) was sitting with her husband on the via ferrata at 920 meters altitude. For unknown reasons, it fell: about 100 meters over rocky terrain into the Rußbach. The police say the cause is still being investigated. The body is expected to be recovered by helicopter on Thursday.
