A tragic accident occurred in Meersburg (D) on Wednesday, in which a diver was thrown against the quay wall by waves.
The stormy weather claimed one life last Wednesday: according to police, a 52-year-old man was on a diving trip in Lake Constance with a colleague. The two entered the water in Meersburg on the German shore of the lake.
The dive itself was probably uneventful, but the fatal accident occurred as he emerged from the water. When the 52-year-old reached the coast there were heavy seas – caused by the storm that raged over Lake Constance. The German director reports that the diver was hit by the high waves and thrown against the promenade wall.
Diver lost consciousness
Apparently this happened not just once, but several times until the man lost consciousness. Without a regulator in his mouth, the man floated on his stomach in the turbulent water. After a few minutes, his diving colleague and helpful passerby finally managed to get the victim out of the water, but by then all help came too late.
The 52-year-old’s colleague survived the dive and rescue unharmed, but was in shock and required hospital treatment.
