Major operation in Tyrol – hotel on fire: guests rescued from balcony

Date:

Fire alarm on Saturday evening in the Tyrolean lowlands: a fire broke out in a room of a hotel in Kirchberg (Kitzbühel district), which spread quickly. Due to the smoke, guests and employees had to be evacuated using a turntable ladder. Several people – including a firefighter – had to go to hospital.

According to police, the fire broke out in a room shortly before 1 a.m. and the flames spread further. There were about 30 people still in the hotel at the time. Due to the enormous amount of smoke, they could no longer escape via the stairwell.

Guests rescued from balconies
A large contingent of emergency services arrived. “While the first firefighting attacks were carried out through the main entrance, people on the balcony were simultaneously evacuated using turntable ladders and ladders,” the investigators said.

Temporary shelters were set up in the local fire station. With the support of the community, all guests were eventually placed in emergency shelter. Fortunately, the fire brigade was unable to find any more people during a search of the hotel.

Several guests and a firefighter in the hospital
Six guests had to be taken to the St. Johann district hospital due to suspected smoke poisoning, and one guest went to the hospital on his own. A firefighter suffered burns during the operation.

Investigation into the cause of the fire
All other guests and four employees escaped in horror. The extent of the damage caused cannot yet be quantified. The cause of the fire is also currently unclear. Investigations are underway.
