Refugees were stopped again at the border with Carinthia: the twenty Syrians, including three children, walked along Seebergstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the border crossing. The tug itself drove away and then had an accident.
A police patrol discovered the twenty refugees on Saturday evening near the border crossing at Seebergsattel. Among the Syrians were three children aged eleven, six and two years old. “While checking if there were other people on the road, the patrol discovered a crashed car on the embankment,” a police spokeswoman said. The car, a nine-seater with Hungarian registration, was probably the smuggler’s vehicle. It was recovered and made safe.
Find the driver
However, an immediate search for the driver turned up nothing. “According to initial findings, nine people, including children, were taken across the border in the vehicle. Another eleven people were on foot. How far and for how long they went is still being investigated,” police said.
The refugees were taken to the immigration police station and police detention center in Klagenfurt. Their identity will be established there. Interviews also attempt to find out more about the identity of the smuggler.
The arrest is yet another arrest that confirms that smugglers are now increasingly using the Balkan route to smuggle refugees into Austria. The smugglers are extremely cruel and even run from the police.
