Avalanche alarm on the Arlberg! Two avalanches fell in the border area between Vorarlberg and Tyrol on Monday evening. As a result, the L197 was also buried in two places and those responsible therefore decided to close the road overnight as a precaution.
On Monday evening around 8 p.m. there was an avalanche in the area of the L197 in Lech. The avalanche buried the road over a larger area. Another avalanche fell around 9:10 p.m. As a result, the road was flooded over a length of more than 20 meters and a height of about 250 centimeters.
Complete shutdown in the middle of the night
After an investigation by the construction site, it could be cleared, but due to the general situation, the L197 between St. Christoph and Alpe Rauz was closed at 10:30 p.m.
Observation makes everything clear
Everything was clear on Tuesday morning: after an inspection by the avalanche commission, the road over the Arlberg Pass was reopened at 5 a.m. Fortunately, no one was injured by the avalanches.
