An organic pig farm in Neuruppersdorf in the Mistelbach district (Lower Austria) went up completely in flames on Tuesday. Several animals died in the flames.
Dozens of Florianis were on duty at a major fire in the Weinviertel on Tuesday around 1 p.m. A major fire broke out in a pig farm in Neuruppersdorf in the Mistelbach district.
Pigs died
A building in the large, modern complex was only recently completed. The pigs inside died in the fire. Exactly how many animals died is still being determined.
Because the building is located outside the area, a water supply pipe several hundred meters long had to be installed.
Second building on fire
The fire also spread to a second building on the property. However, emergency services were able to quickly get the situation under control. The surrounding stables have been extensively secured, preventing the fire from spreading further.
Other animals that were in the immediate vicinity of threatened parts of the building were released and rescued. Seven fire brigades with 85 Florianis were in action. The flames were completely extinguished around 3 p.m.
