Alert in Vienna-Floridsdorf: Human remains were discovered by a fisherman in the Marchfeld Canal on Saturday. The body part was confiscated – the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating.
Shocked, a fisherman alerted the emergency services on Saturday around 4:30 p.m. Instead of a fish, the man had pulled part of a corpse from the Marchfeld Canal.
Search for the remaining body fails
The body part was immediately seized by investigators and taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Meanwhile, a search was on for the remaining body. So far only one other body part has been found, the search for the whole body has failed.
Violent crime cannot be ruled out
The Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department is conducting the investigation. These go in all directions. Everything is conceivable, from a suicide victim to an accident and a violent crime. It was also initially unclear how long the body parts had been in the water. According to the first information, it could be a foot, among other things.
