Without Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine plan peace summits

Date:

Switzerland and Ukraine announced a peace summit on Monday following a meeting between President Viola Amherd and her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. According to reports, planning should begin immediately.

An invitation to Russia is not planned, as Zelenskyj indicated. All countries that support Ukraine’s territorial integrity would be invited, he said. Russia launched a war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022 and occupied large swathes of land in the east and south.

Basic requirements for peace are discussed
The format of such a summit would follow the four Peace Formula conferences that have taken place since spring 2023 in Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Malta and on Sunday in Davos. Davos involved 83 countries and international organizations, but not China.

The plan concerns the basic conditions for peace, which Kiev has formulated in a ten-point plan. These include Russia’s withdrawal from all parts of the country, punishment for Russian war criminals and reparations.

Kremlin: “Talks without Russia are useless”
Zelensky is also expected in Davos itself, where he will give a speech. The Russian leaders called the talks in Davos about peace formulas useless as long as they themselves were not involved. “This is just talk for the sake of talking,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
