Even if you don’t own a home, you can reduce your electricity bill with solar energy: balcony power stations make it possible. Registration numbers are increasing sharply. But in addition to the financing jungle, the neighbors and the legal situation are not always friendly. Krone+ spoke to two affected people and showed which three obstacles need to be taken into account.
Every Austrian can generate up to 800 watts on his balcony without a permit: all you have to do is place the solar panels on the balcony, connect them and feed the electricity into an inverter. However, if you have no experience with electrical installations, you should consult a professional to avoid rookie mistakes. For example, extension cables or distribution boxes are taboo when handing in solar energy – not everyone knows that!
The boom continues unabated; according to surveys, there are now tens of thousands of mini power plants on balconies across the country. But many have not settled the score with their neighbors or the authorities: “We are currently facing threats of legal action, lawsuits and extrajudicial procedures,” says factory owner Ludwig E. of Linz Krone+.
