A cold case in Dortmund leads to a violent criminal with a criminal record. In 1991, burglars broke into the bungalow of a young interior designer Heike Kötting and murdered her.
No victim is ever forgotten – just like in the famous American crime series, German cold case investigators were also behind a “cold” unsolved murder of women. On February 25, 1991, at least two burglars entered the bungalow of the young interior designer Heike Kötting through a light shaft and stabbed her to death.
60 year old arrested
After the murder of the then 28-year-old woman, the perpetrators fled in their red Ford Fiesta. The car was found three days after the crime at a motorway petrol station in France with the tank empty and the license plates removed. For 33 years there was no solid clue to the murderous burglars – now “Commissioner DNA” provided the breakthrough and led to the arrest of a now 60-year-old man from Dortmund.
Already known to the police for assault
However, the murder suspect has remained silent during previous interrogations. However, a trail also leads to Austria, where the man is already known to the police for assault. Dortmund police are now asking for more information, including about at least one accomplice.
Heike Kötting probably knew the murderers. Because they knew that the young woman had deposited 900 DM in rent debt for her ex-boyfriend in a sugar bowl and two weeks before the bloody crime they had broken in and stolen the money. But Kötting did not report this to the police; the second burglary by the perpetrators, who were probably hoping for money again, was fatal.
