The ‘bargain’ went up in flames: just twenty minutes after a 38-year-old in the Gmunden district (Upper Austria) bought a used Mazda for just under 4,000 euros, the car’s engine started to smoke. The owner had barely parked the car when the car caught fire.
A 38-year-old Syrian drove specially from Vienna to Gmunden on Thursday evening to buy a used Mazda 6 for just under 4,000 euros. After the deal, he drove his new car onto the western highway towards the federal capital.
But the 38-year-old did not get far, because after just twenty minutes the driver in the municipality of Laakirchen noticed that heavy smoke was developing in the engine compartment.
Car completely on fire
The driver immediately stopped at the emergency lane and called 911. Five minutes later the smoke was accompanied by flames.
When the fire brigade arrived, the ‘new’ car was already completely on fire. The Florianis of the FF Laakirchen and the BTF Steyrermühl extinguished the car using heavy breathing equipment. The highway in this area was difficult to navigate during the duration of the operation.
