Spectacular accident on Wednesday evening in the Tyrolean Oberland: a truck semi-trailer carrying 23 tons of scrap metal overturned on the B180 Reschenstrasse near Pfunds (Landeck district). There was enormous traffic disruption, in which the driver (43) was injured.
The accident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. The 43-year-old Slovakian was driving the tractor-trailer and semi-trailer – according to police, a total of 23 tons of scrap metal had been loaded onto the semi-trailer – on the B180 Reschenstrasse towards Italy when, in a bend to the left, first the trailer and then the tractor semi-trailer overturned.
Wall prevented further fall
“The boundary wall on the right edge of the road, including the attached guardrail, which was torn from its anchorage, prevented the tractor-trailer from falling further, ultimately ending up in the area of the zoo. -called the pulpit curve,” say the researchers.
B180 closed for four and a half hours
The 43-year-old driver was seriously injured in the accident. After first aid, he was taken by ambulance to Zams Hospital. Immediately after the accident and during the rescue operation, the B180 was only passable in one lane. During the rescue and clean-up work, Reschenstrasse had to be completely closed for four and a half hours.
