A Russian charter plane may have crashed in Afghanistan. Russia’s aviation authority said it disappeared from radar on Sunday night. There were probably six people on board.
According to authorities, it was a chartered ambulance flight with a Falcon-10 jet from the French manufacturer Dassault from 1978. The plane was en route from India via Uzbekistan to Moscow. According to Russian media reports, there were two Russian passengers and four crew members on board.
It is still unclear why the plane disappeared from radar on Sunday night. The plane may have crashed in Afghanistan. Afghan police said they had received reports of a plane crash in a remote mountainous area. However, the type, cause and possible victims are not yet known.
Place difficult to reach
India’s civil aviation ministry said it was a plane on an ambulance flight from Thailand to Moscow. The refueling took place in Gaya, India. A rescue team was sent to the crash site, according to a provincial government spokesperson. However, since this is more than 200 kilometers from the provincial capital, it would take about twelve hours to reach it. In addition, the harsh winter makes traveling to the remote mountains more difficult.
Moscow’s Rosawiatsiya Aviation Authority is currently searching for the private plane. According to her own information, she is in contact with the authorities in Afghanistan.
