As reported several times, hackers have paralyzed the state of Carinthia’s IT system. The computers have been off since Tuesday morning, no emails can be sent or received, no passports issued, no fines sent – nothing works. Since the hacker attack, work has been done to fix the problems. In any case, e-mails and citizen services should be possible by the middle of next week.
Of course we also work on troubleshooting during the weekend. “The services that directly affect citizens will continue to take precedence,” said Gerd Kurath, head of the state’s press service. Two-thirds of the workplaces have already been repositioned in terms of security, but are not yet connected to the network.
Some data was encrypted by the attack, but was restored using the country’s backup system.
The police investigation is also ongoing. The hackers had demanded five million euros in bitcoins.
