Devastating incident on Sunday in the Tyrolean Ötztal: a three-year-old girl was kicked in the face by a horse in Längenfeld. The child was so seriously injured that he had to be flown to the clinic in Innsbruck by emergency helicopter.
The horrific incident took place shortly before 12 noon. A 20-year-old local woman was riding on horseback towards a pasture on a municipal road in Längenfeld. “According to previous findings, the three-year-old girl then ran after the young woman and the horse and shouted for them to wait,” police said.
Girl hit in the head by a hoof
This probably startled the animal and kicked it out with one hoof. “The toddler was struck in the head area and subsequently fell to the ground,” investigators continued.
The rider provided first aid and raised the alarm
The 20-year-old immediately provided first aid and started the rescue chain. After initial treatment on site, the girl was flown by rescue helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.
