German security authorities are apparently investigating the possibility of an entry ban for Martin Sellner, the former head of the right-wing extremist Identitarian movement in Austria.
In response to a request from the left, the Interior Ministry in Berlin stated that such an approach was being investigated. The CDU has also expressed its support. “In our robust democracy, we should generally not tolerate any agitation against our constitutional order – especially from foreign extremists such as Martin Sellner,” Bundestag member Philipp Amthor told dpa. “In this regard, I believe it is right and necessary for the security authorities to seriously investigate an entry ban against Martin Sellner.”
However, special legal care is needed so that he does not appear to be a victim. The assessment of whether the necessary criteria for an entry ban have been met is not the responsibility of the political discussion in parliament, but of an actual discussion within the security authorities.
Sellner gave a lecture on “remigration”
As reported, Sellner took part in a meeting of radical rightists in Potsdam last year, where a secret plan for the mass deportation of people with a migration background was discussed. Members of the AfD and the right-wing conservative Values Union, among others, took part. Sellner spoke in a presentation about the concept of ‘remigration’. When right-wing extremists use the term, they usually mean that large numbers of people of foreign origin are forced to leave the country – even under duress.
The meeting has resulted in demonstrations in recent days with several 100,000 participants in numerous cities in Germany. An anti-right demonstration will also take place in Vienna on Friday.
