Had a fight in the enclosure – monkey has been on the run in Scotland for three days

Date:

A monkey escaped from a Scottish zoo after apparently getting into a fight with its comrades in the enclosure. The Japanese macaque has been on the run for three days; the zoo’s keepers try to track him down with thermal imaging drones.

The primate has been nicknamed ‘Kingussie Kong’ and appears to be enjoying his adventure in freedom. When he steals nuts from a bird feeder and eats them, the residents are delighted. “It was really exciting, we were pushing each other out of the way to get the best video and the best camera angle,” eyewitness Tiina Salzberg told the media.

The animal escaped from the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie. As the Independent reported, tensions in the enclosure could be responsible for the monkey’s escape. He has been keeping several keepers on their toes for days in their attempts to catch the primate. “The macaque was spotted this morning,” a park spokesperson said. He was observed by drones for about 45 minutes before disappearing unhindered.

Zookeepers want to “convince monkeys to come back”
“Unfortunately he wasn’t in a position where we could capture him safely,” said Keith Gilchrist of Highland Wildlife Park. “Throughout the day, our team of experts will patrol the area using various techniques to persuade him to return. We are using thermal imaging drones to assist the search,” the zoo said.

They hope that the monkey will return to the zoo on its own initiative. The public has been urged not to approach the animal, “although the macaque is not believed to be dangerous to people or pets,” the website explains. “We ask locals to bring in all obvious potential food sources, such as bird feeders or food waste, as we hope the monkey will return to the park if it cannot find food elsewhere,” the park said.

Jokes are being made on social media about the monkey’s escape:

The escape of ‘Kingussie Kong’ is now causing a lot of laughter on social media. There are a number of memes circulating showing the monkey, usually dressed in a kilt.
