Several police patrols and at least a dozen police officers rushed to Salzburg’s Lehener Park late Wednesday evening because of a violent crime. Similar incidents have occurred in other places. It is now clear: one person was killed and several others were injured in the clashes.
A large police contingent called for a confrontation between at least fifteen people, mostly of Syrian descent. The situation is likely to have escalated shortly afterwards. One witness reported there were at least a dozen uniformed officers. The rescue team was also in the park with an emergency doctor. At least three people were injured. The police temporarily arrested three people involved.
Hotspot of the drug scene
A little later, the emergency services found a man of Somali descent. He had injuries to his body caused by a knife. The man died a short time later in hospital from his injuries. It is not yet clear whether the two incidents are related. Crimes have repeatedly occurred in and in the immediate vicinity of Lehenpark in the past. The park is considered one of the hotspots of Salzburg’s drug scene.
