The number of cases of infection is increasing rapidly and ordinations are literally being stormed. 563 people with flu were particularly badly affected. We know all the figures about the disease wave.
It starts with a sore throat, followed by coughing, runny nose or hoarseness. If you then get a headache and aching limbs, you have a complete cold. Many Styrians who currently have to stay in bed can sing a sad song about this. The doctors in the practices, which are literally being stormed, also notice that it feels like half the country is shut down.
The absenteeism reports from week four of this year, which are received centrally by the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), speak volumes. Accordingly, 39,038 Styrians cannot go to work (almost 3,000 more than the previous week). 563 people suffering from real flu were particularly badly affected. The number of these diseases among ÖGK insured people has risen sharply: 371 flu cases were reported in calendar week three.
Those who have contracted a flu-like infection do not fare much better. Absenteeism due to illness is also increasing here. While 9,662 people were bedridden in week three, this number rose to 11,261 seven days later. Compared to the same period last year, the health insurance fund registered significantly more cases of infection in total.
Doctors still advise Styrians to get vaccinated against the flu
“There is currently high virus activity,” reports ÖGK chief physician Andreas Krauter. “As rates of true flu and flu-like infections continue to rise, it is important to prevent infection from spreading.” The doctor recommends getting vaccinated against the flu, wearing a mask, keeping your distance, washing and disinfecting your hands.
