Three injured people, two of them seriously, an hour-long rescue operation and liquid oxygen that had to be brought to safety from one of the accident vehicles – that is the result of a devastating collision Tuesday morning in Gunskirchen (Upper Austria).
The dramatic accident involved a small van and a car traveling through Wiener Straße in Gunskirchen on Tuesday. According to initial reports, the van first hit a truck and then collided with an oncoming vehicle. The two vehicles involved in the accident literally became wedged together and came to a stop on the embankment of the road.
Steering wheel is stuck in vehicle
The driver of the car was apparently so badly trapped in the vehicle that emergency services spent more than two hours trying to rescue him from the wreckage of the vehicle.
According to the Red Cross, two male patients and one woman were injured in the collision. The older of the two men was taken to the Welskliniek by the emergency doctor, the younger was flown by helicopter to the accident hospital in Linz.
Charged with liquid oxygen
In addition to the dramatic accident, there was another danger: according to initial reports, the van was carrying liquid oxygen – which was brought to safety during the rescue operation. The Wiener Straße was closed for hours between Gunskirchen and Lambach in the vicinity of the accident site.
