Basically everything was negotiated between the Democrats and the Republicans. But election campaigner Donald Trump intervened. Financial aid to Israel and Ukraine failed in the US Senate. Kurt Seinitz, foreign policy expert from ‘Krone’, summarizes in the krone.tv lecture: ‘Biden is still president, but Trump is already in power.’
“One man (Donald Trump) is forcing the US to abandon an ally (Ukraine). This has lasting consequences for the image of the US and for all international events. We will also feel it economically.”
By exerting influence over Republicans, Trump has set his policy until November: “He will not allow any more legislation to be passed between now and the election that could incite the Democrats. That means: nine months of political blockade in the US.”
“Unable to compromise”
The foreign policy journalist explains what could happen if Trump becomes president: “The entire American policy of the past 100 years will completely change. The Republican Party has become a cult, with a messiah at its head, a savior, a savior who is no longer capable of compromise at all. But American democracy only works with both houses.”
‘Netanyahu is waging a personal war’
Foreign policy is also currently dealing with another “no.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not responding to radical Islamist Hamas’s “bizarre demands” for a ceasefire, as he said in a late-night TV address. Instead, he ordered the Israeli army to “prepare” for an operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Seinitz: “Netanyahu is waging a personal war, that’s the tragedy of the whole thing. He knows very well that he cannot make any concessions, otherwise his two fascist coalition partners would leave immediately.” If new elections come, Netanyahu knows he will lose his job. “He is waging a personal war at the expense of thousands of people. 27,000 deaths is no small achievement.”
