A 12-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries in a skiing accident in the Zillertal Hochfügen on Thursday. The member of a German school group had previously fallen over the edge of the track.
The group of students from Germany were on black slope number 6 in the Hochfügen ski area around noon on Thursday when the serious accident occurred. The 12-year-old German fell at the bottom of the track through his own fault and went over the edge of the track.
A doctor who happened to be present provided first aid
The student suffered serious head injuries even though he was wearing a ski helmet. His teacher started the rescue chain. A doctor who happened to be a skier at the time of the accident provided first aid to the injured person until the slope rescue team and emergency doctor arrived.
The injured person was then flown by helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck.
