There have been several cyber attacks on facilities in Lower Austria in recent days. In addition to the municipality of Korneuburg, the Laa ad Thaya thermal baths in the Mistelbach district and the Economic Development Institute (WIFI) were also affected. State police say the investigation is ongoing.
According to reports, the municipality of Korneuburg no longer has access to its data since Tuesday evening because it is encrypted. “The technical department is working hard to resolve the issue and data security is guaranteed,” the website says. City hall employees are currently only available by telephone.
“Research still ongoing”
“The investigation is ongoing, we are working closely with the security authorities,” said Deputy Mayor Helene Fuchs-Moser (ÖVP). For the city, paying a ransom to regain access to the data is out of the question.
The State Office for State Security and Combating Extremism (LSE) works together with the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence (DSN). The State Criminal Police of Lower Austria and the Federal Criminal Police are also involved in the investigation, it was emphasized.
