The fire brigade in Haibach an der Donau (Upper Austria) had to extinguish a fire under difficult circumstances. The roof structure of a house had caught fire and a long supply line was needed.
Major alarm shortly before midnight in Haibach im Mühlkreis. In the Affenberg district, the roof construction of a house caught fire. Ten fire brigades from the area rushed to the site of the fire.
Loud crackling noticed
The 25-year-old resident had previously noticed loud creaking in the apartment building around 11:30 pm. When they went to look with their 27-year-old friend, they found a fire in the attic. Her boyfriend and her 59-year-old father tried to contain the fire with fire extinguishers, and the father suffered minor burns. The 25-year-old informed the fire brigade via an emergency call
It soon became clear that it was not going to be an easy undertaking. Because there were problems with the supply of fire water, a long supply line had to be constructed. It ended up being more than two kilometers long.
About 150 firefighters quickly brought the extensive fire in the attic under control and prevented it from spreading to the other home.
drone in action
However, the eventual extinguishing of the countless embers in the insulation wool under the roof tiles proved difficult. A drone with a thermal imager supported the operation command with aerial photos. Most emergency services were able to leave after about three hours.
The amount of damage is likely to be in the six-digit euro range.
