Two men injured – another serious snowmobile accident

Date:

Last weekend, a snowmobile accident ended fatally for a 37-year-old Tyrolean in the Pinzgau in Salzburg. Another serious skidoo accident took place in Tyrol’s Zillertal on Saturday evening. Two men were seriously injured.

The accident happened around 2:45 am in the middle of the night in the “Gerlosstein” ski area. Two Germans (43 and 44 years old) planned to ski down a slope near the mountain station of the gondola to their holiday cabin.

Suddenly lost control
After apparently trying in vain several times to overcome a steep slope, the driver drove back down the slope. “The snowmobile returned to the toboggan run below, where the driver likely lost control of the vehicle and went down the toboggan run,” police said.

After about ten meters the vehicle struck a tree, overturned and the two men were thrown into the woods, where they were left seriously injured.

Emergency services were brought up the mountain with ski boxes and gondolas
One of the two injured people eventually managed to inform an acquaintance, who in turn informed a snow plow driver. A short time later he arrived at the scene of the accident and started the rescue chain.

Together with the Gerlos mountain rescue service, we took the gondola up the mountain and from there we went to the accident site,” says operations manager Gerhard Daum of the Zell am Ziller mountain rescue service. “We brought the injured to the slope with rope rescue. They were transported to the valley by gondola and handed over to the rescue team.”

Taken to hospital with head injuries
What was special for the mountain rescuers was that two people had to be rescued. “Usually we only deal with one patient. Usually it is tobogganers who have had an accident,” says Daum.
The two men were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Schwaz and the clinic in Innsbruck with serious head injuries.

Ten members of the mountain rescue service from Zell am Ziller, six colleagues from Gerlos, two ambulances, an emergency doctor, the police and employees of the mountain railway were on duty, which lasted until about 5:30 am.
