Dramatic incident in Klagefurt: The driver of a bus lost consciousness – and the vehicle crashed into the concrete barrier of a protective island. A colleague in training (49) had the presence of mind to intervene and prevent worse.
The professional driver from the St. Veit an der Glan district was driving his bus on Pischeldorfer Straße at lunchtime when he suddenly complained of health problems – and lost consciousness seconds later. Fortunately, a future colleague was on board for the school trip that day.
The prisoners were unharmed
The 49-year-old had the presence of mind to grab the steering wheel – even though she could no longer avoid a collision with the concrete barrier of a protective island. But the driver then managed to gain control of the bus and brought it to a stop in the opposite lane after about 100 metres. The six bus passengers were unharmed, the unconscious driver recovered and was taken to hospital.
