The highest fire alarm level was issued on Thursday afternoon in Waldviertel, Lower Austria: the fire brigade was called to a large-scale fire around 4 p.m. The flames also threatened to spread to neighboring buildings. Several respiratory protection teams were able to prevent this at the last minute.
The operation for the fire brigade in Eisenreichs, municipality of Pfaffenschlag in the Waidhofen an der Thaya district, was not only hot, but also explosive. In the village of about 50 inhabitants, a shed where weapons and ammunition were legally stored went up in flames.

Much smaller explosions made it considerably more difficult for the respiratory protection teams of the ten fire brigades to extinguish the fire. Nevertheless, crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the residential building on the agricultural property and to the adjacent farm.

Brandaus could not yet be given around 6 p.m. The heavy smoke made it difficult to extinguish the remaining fire. There were no initial reports of injuries; the Red Cross was on site as a precaution. It is also unlikely that animals were harmed.
Tractor completely burned out
“Fortunately, several fire trucks were quickly on site. “Nevertheless, a tractor was destroyed by flames,” said Stefan Mayer, spokesman for the Waidhofen district fire brigade, in his first brief comment to the “Krone”. He confirmed that the fire was already under control.
