The body of an 85-year-old holidaymaker from Germany was discovered on Saturday morning in Damüls in the Bregenzerwald (Vorarlberg). The woman did not return after a walk and was reported missing.
Police say she was found dead in a creek bed early Saturday morning after an eight-hour search. When she did not return to her accommodation on Friday, her landlord first searched for her in vain and then initiated the rescue chain.
I fell 600 feet into the depths
According to the mountain rescue operations manager, the woman probably slipped and fell about 600 feet over steep terrain in the so-called Plattentobel.
The search involved approximately 120 people from Damüls and surrounding communities. The woman had been holidaying in the village for decades and was expected to know the area.
